For the first time in 2024, Apple is rumoured to switch to OLED technology for its new iPad Pro line, but it is not the only advancement that the corporation is expected to make. Those high-end tablets might also come in a 4TB storage capacity, but it’s probable that only a very small segment of the market will be interested in it.
Apple presently provides 2TB versions of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, while Revengus reported on X that the OLED model might offer a 4TB storage option based on anonymous sources.
Since upgrading from 128GB to 2TB of internal memory on the most recent models costs a hefty $1,100 premium, it won’t be shocking to see Apple ask users to pay more to have twice as much storage. When you factor in cellular connectivity, the price point of the overall package approaches that of the MacBook Pro.
It is safe to assume that these gadgets will be packing quite the punch when it comes to a performance and power-efficiency pairing since it is reported that the OLED iPad Pro versions will be given the same M3 chip as some Macs later this year. Even the M2 variants are available to most customers and will be tempting purchases once the OLED lineup is released and those iPad Pro models are reduced in price.
A 4TB device will only be appealing to individuals who deal with large quantities of storage and want something thinner and lighter than a portable Mac because Apple continues to limit iPadOS.
The attempt to offer programmes that can take advantage of its extremely competent bespoke chipsets is there, but the workflow also needs to be seamless. The technology giant recently released Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for the iPad, with the M2 versions receiving some exclusive capabilities. For example, the company’s Macs will appear more appealing from a practical aspect because macOS still prevents the easy transfer of data when connecting an external USB-C disc.
