A Remarkable Journey: From London to the ISL

Born on April 2, 1997, in London, Cy Goddard’s footballing journey began at the prestigious Tottenham Hotspur Academy. Here, he spent five crucial years of his career, focusing on his development while representing the U18 and U21 sides.

In 2018, Goddard took a significant step in his career by signing a three-year contract with Benevento Calcio, an Italian football club. It was during his time at Benevento that he made his senior debut, showcasing his talents on the European stage. However, his journey took a twist when he joined Mumbai City FC, an ISL side, on a year-long loan. His debut for Mumbai City FC was memorable, marked by his contribution to a remarkable 6-1 victory over Odisha FC. This performance was a precursor to his significant impact on Indian football.

During his stint at Mumbai City FC, Cy Goddard made nineteen appearances, proving himself to be a versatile and dynamic attacker. His ability to play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder added depth to the squad, making him a valuable asset for the team.

Goddard’s footballing journey didn’t stop there. He ventured to Australia, signing a 2-year deal with the Central Coast Mariners, an A-League side. His debut for the Mariners was nothing short of spectacular, as he scored the second goal in a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Newcastle Jets. He further demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess by netting his second goal for the Australian side in a 2-0 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers.

In 2022, Cy Goddard crossed continents once more, this time to the United States. He joined Detroit City, a USL Championship side. Despite making just eight appearances during his time in Michigan, his potential and talent remained evident.

A Homecoming: Cy Goddard Returns to India with Odisha FC

Cy Goddard’s return to India, this time with Odisha FC, has been met with excitement and anticipation. His addition to the squad promises to enhance the team’s attacking capabilities and overall quality. Goddard is expected to partner with the prolific Roy Krishna in Odisha FC’s attack, forming a formidable duo that could trouble any defense in the ISL.

Despite being born in England, he made the unconventional choice to represent Japan at the Under-16 and Under-17 levels. While he has not yet received a call-up to the senior Japanese national team, his decision aligns with Odisha FC’s criteria of having a player from an Asian country in their ranks.

Looking Ahead: A New Chapter Begins

Cy Goddard’s signing is a testament to Odisha FC’s ambition as they set their sights on major honors in the upcoming ISL season. With a one-year contract in hand, Goddard is eager to make his mark and contribute to his new team’s success. His experience, adaptability, and familiarity with the ISL make him a player to watch in the coming season.
