Microsoft alleges that Sony will be launching its PlayStation 5 Slim later this year

As Microsoft continued its legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission, additional previously undisclosed information emerged, and one of the most recent and exciting pieces of data is that Sony may be sitting on a genuine PlayStation 5 Slim console. Even more intriguing is the possibility that Microsoft has disclosed its price model and release window.

Microsoft’s efforts to appease Sony have thus far been futile, and Xbox is now being forced to legally argue in favor of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in response to the FTC’s request for a preliminary injunction on the agreement. Even though a large number of governments have previously approved Microsoft’s acquisition of the gaming behemoth, the FTC in the United States has refused to do so, instead launching an antitrust lawsuit.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft has expressed dissatisfaction with the evolving scenario, and the firm has disclosed a slew of critical information regarding Xbox, PlayStation, and Sony as part of its legal arguments.

Its recent allegation that Sony has a PS5 Slim ready to market later in 2023 is one of the most important of these leaks so far, and the possibility that the device will sell for $399 means that PlayStation’s sales strategy for the rest of the year may be rather aggressive indeed.

This would imply that the PS5 Slim is being priced in the same range as the normal Digital Edition of the PS5, which is an odd situation, but one that would undoubtedly result in increased sales for Sony.

It’s worth noting that the possibility of a PS5 Slim isn’t the most shocking FTC v. Microsoft revelation. For the sake of the injunction hearing, Xbox and PlayStation have made practically everything public. What was supposed to be a simple, albeit significant, business transaction has now turned into one of the greatest court battles in recent years, and it’s far from over.

Canada also spoke out against the Activision Blizzard merger, with the Canadian Regulatory Bureau pointing out “inaccuracies” in Microsoft’s court documents. Microsoft then stated that the CRB’s formal waiting period for argumentative submissions had already expired.
