Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach from the 23/24 season. The Argentine’s backroom staff has been confirmed as well, with his trusted assistant, Jesus Perez, following him to Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino’s former teammate at Newell’s Old Boys and first team coach, Miguel D’Agostino, will also be joining the club. They will be joined by goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and Pochettino’s oldest son, Sebastiano Pochettino who will be working as a sports scientist and fitness coach.

Perez has been renowned for putting players through gruelling fitness programs to boost their fitness. This helped Spurs players cover a lot of distance when the Argentine was in charge. And now, it could completely change the way Chelsea play the game.

The arrival of a dedicated fitness specialist and sports scientist like Sebastiano will be very important for the Blues. Given their crisis with injuries this season, having more input from the youngest sports scientist in Premier League history will no doubt be beneficial to their fortune next season.

Jimenez, similarly, has been praised by Hugo Lloris for improving his fitness and technique. And he could prove to be a great addition given Chelsea’s woes with all their first team goalkeepers this season. There is a chance that both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga could be sold in the summer. And in that case, he could mentor the new goalie to be signed, if there is one.

There will be a lot of pressure for the new head coach to get things right at Chelsea, especially on the back of the season they have just had. However, with a full preseason under their belt and decreased pressure with no Champions League football, it could be a return to form for the Blues next campaign.
