Apple is looking to hire new AI talent

Apple, like many other organisations, may be debating what role the latest breakthroughs in AI are and should play in its company. One thing Apple is certain of is that it wants to attract more generative AI talent into its business. On its career page, the Cupertino corporation has at least a dozen job postings looking for expertise in generative AI. The job postings began appeared on April 27.

The job ads come amid some conflicting signals from the firm on generative AI. During the business’s Q2 results call earlier this month, CEO Tim Cook avoided answering specific queries about what the company is doing in the area. According to the WSJ, the corporation has begun restricting some employees’ usage of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other external generative AI tools due to concerns about proprietary data seeping out over the platforms.

These constraints are neither novel nor specific to Apple. Several companies, both tech and non-tech, have imposed similar limits.

Some believe Apple’s policy has been in place for some time. However, more third-party apps are including generative AI aspects and Apple is reportedly working on its own generative AI products, according to the WSJ. Hiring additional generative AI professionals could help with either or both of these goals.

The positions are available in teams such as Integrated System Experience, Input Experience NLP, Machine Learning R&D, and the Technology Development Group in San Diego, the Bay Area, and Seattle.

With the launch of Siri voice assistant on the iPhone in 2011, the company was an early mover in the world of consumer AI applications, and for years it had a reputation as one of the largest technology companies identifying and recruiting AI talent from other companies, startups, and, according to some, sometimes straight from university labs and PhD projects.
