Disney World will be closing down its Galactic Starcruiser, a luxurious Star Wars-themed hotel that costs approximately $5,000 for a two-night stay. The final guests will be hosted from September 28th to the 30th, according to an update on Disney’s website.

The hotel, inspired by the Halcyon in Star Wars, offers a highly immersive experience with detailed decor, interactive events, themed dining, and live entertainment over the course of two nights. However, the high price tag has made it less accessible for many visitors.

Recent indications suggested that the Galactic Starcruiser experience may have been facing challenges. In March, Disney announced a reduction in the number of weekly bookings from three to four down to two starting in October. Unfortunately, with the closure of the Halcyon in September, this adjustment will not take effect.

Disney plans to reach out to individuals with bookings on or after September 30th to discuss alternatives and make necessary modifications.

Additionally, the company has temporarily paused new bookings until May 26th to address the needs of affected guests. It has been a challenging day for Disney as CEO Bob Iger also announced the cancellation of a $1 billion development project near the Orlando, Florida theme park. This decision, attributed to “changing business conditions” in an internal memo, may be influenced by the ongoing dispute between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Last month, the company filed a lawsuit against Florida, alleging targeted retaliation by the state due to the company’s opposition to the “Don’t Say Gay” law. The canceled project also relieves 2,000 Disney employees in California from having to relocate to Florida, a factor that led to a worker walkout last year.
