Marvel Television’s rocky 2026 just got rockier. Daredevil: Born Again has officially been confirmed as ending after Season 3, making it the third live-action Marvel show canceled this year alone — following Wonder Man and Spider-Noir. If you’ve been wondering whether Disney+ is quietly retooling its entire MCU television strategy, the answer is a resounding yes.

The Three Shows That Didn’t Survive 2026

Wonder Man was the year’s first shocker. Season 2 was axed at Disney+ just months after being greenlit, with star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II revealing the call came down to pure viewership numbers rather than creative dissatisfaction — even co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton admitted the decision wasn’t his to make.

Spider-Noir, Sony’s Nicolas Cage-fronted detective noir for Prime Video, wrapped as a one-and-done after its eight-episode season. A reported $400 million price tag combined with “respectable but not outsized” viewership made a second season financially unworkable — though Cage himself insists “one season is perfect” for the story he wanted to tell.

Daredevil: Born Again is the biggest domino to fall. Season 3 — already in post-production and reuniting the full Defenders lineup (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) — will be the finale. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has already exited, and Season 2’s viewership reportedly dropped by half compared to Season 1. Fans of the original 2015 Netflix series can revisit just how beloved that Daredevil incarnation became before this reboot ever launched.

2026’s Marvel Cancellations

Show	Platform	Seasons Delivered	Reported Reason
Wonder Man	Disney+	1 (S2 canceled pre-production)	Low viewership
Spider-Noir	Prime Video	1	High cost vs. modest viewership
Daredevil: Born Again	Disney+	3 (final)	Viewership decline + contract lapses

Why This Is Happening Now?

Marvel Television reportedly always has three to five live-action shows in development, so the cancellations aren’t about output — they’re about format. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is pivoting away from serialized, movie-chopped-into-episodes storytelling toward leaner, procedural shows designed to run annually for years, closer to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. model. Two new projects are already moving: a spy thriller codenamed Zodiac (possibly a Jessica Jones revival) and a youth-oriented series nicknamed Slumber Party, widely believed to be the long-rumored Young Avengers show.

This kind of strategic reset in a franchise’s TV pipeline isn’t unique to Marvel — streaming platforms across the board are tightening renewal criteria as production costs balloon. We’ve tracked similar belt-tightening patterns across entertainment franchises over at TechnoSports, where shifting viewership economics are reshaping what gets greenlit versus quietly shelved.

What Happens to the Characters Now?

The good news for fans: cancellation doesn’t necessarily mean the end of these characters. Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin could resurface in a theatrical MCU film — possibly Spider-Man 5 — once their Disney+ contracts wrap. Nicolas Cage will also voice Spider-Man Noir again in 2027’s Beyond the Spider-Verse, just not in live-action form.
