GTA VI gets pushed to April 2024-March 2025 – Know Everything
In September of this year, it will mark a decade since the original release of Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This milestone has left numerous fans of the open-world series eagerly anticipating the arrival of GTA VI.
Rockstar Games officially confirmed the development of the next instalment in February 2022, stating that it was well underway. Before that, industry analysts had speculated that GTA VI could be released in the fiscal year 2024, spanning from April 2023 to March 2024. This speculation was based on Take-Two’s projected net bookings of $9 billion for that fiscal year.
However, the recent Q4 2023 earnings report and subsequent call have provided further clarity on the forecast. Take-Two reported net bookings of $5.28 billion, a 55% increase compared to the previous year, thanks to the strong performance of GTA V, GTA Online, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Zynga’s mobile portfolio, which generated $1.4 billion.
Interestingly, Take-Two has revised its forecasts for the next three fiscal years. They now expect net bookings of $5.45 billion to $5.55 billion for fiscal year 2024, down from the previous $9 billion forecast.
The lineup of titles scheduled for the next fiscal year, such as Star Wars: Hunters, does not include GTA VI, indicating a delay to the fiscal year 2025.
Take-Two appears highly optimistic about the fiscal year beginning in April 2024 and ending in March 2025, with a forecast of over $8 billion in net bookings. CEO Strauss Zelnick openly described it as a “highly anticipated year” and expressed the company’s plans to launch several “groundbreaking” titles that will set new industry standards. This strongly suggests the release of a new Grand Theft Auto game.
During the investor call, analysts attempted to uncover information about the games planned for the fiscal year 2025, but Take-Two executives remained tight-lipped.
It is worth noting that Take-Two forecasts an even bigger fiscal year in 2026, potentially due to continued revenue from GTA VI, including its online mode, as well as the anticipated release of the new BioShock game being developed by Cloud Chamber. The game was officially announced in late 2019, with developers indicating that work would continue for several more years. A launch in the calendar year 2025 seems highly probable, as few other IPs in Take-Two’s lineup would have such a significant impact on net bookings.
