Bayer Leverkusen are all set to complete the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo on a free transfer. The left-back was linked with a return to Barcelona, but they were seemingly fake.
The Catalonian side were never in talks to sign him, as they are content with Jordi Alba, Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso in the position. Grimaldo has agreed a contract with Leverkusen until 2027, and will sign the paperwork very soon to complete the formalities.
Alejandro Grimaldo to sign for Bayer Leverkusen this summer
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the player has completed the medical assessment for the move. An official announcement can be expected confirming his arrival soon.
Grimaldo has been with Benfica since 2016, and has made 301 appearances during his time with them. This season, he has provided 15 assists and scored seven goals across 52 appearances in all competitions, showcasing his ability to contribute in attack. He has won three Portuguese league titles, three Portuguese Super Cups and one Portuguese Cup in 2017.
Leverkusen will be losing Jeremie Frimpong in the summer, and will receive a significant boost from the attacking output that Alejandro Grimaldo can bring to the team. The team is currently in the semifinals of the Europa League, and is in contention for a top six finish under Xabi Alonso.
