Napoli are on the verge of winning their first Serie A title in 33 years this weekend. If they can win against Salernitana, and Lazio drop points against Inter, the Azzurri will be crowned champions after a very impressive season.
They will have won the title with six games left, ending their long drought for the league title. The last time that they earned the Scudetto was with Diego Maradona, and they have now fully earned the trophy by outperforming each and every team in the league by a significant margin.
Napoli on the verge of winning first Serie A title in 33 years
In spite of having the likes of Dries Mertens, Gonzalo Higuain, Lorenzo Insigne and Kalidou Koulibaly in their line-up, Napoli were unable to come close to the league title. But interestingly, now that their old guard has left, they have dominated the title race and it is only a matter of time before they earn the Scudetto.
The partnership between Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen has been crucial to their dominance this season. Moreover, the brilliance of Kim Min Jae in defense has also been essential. Tying it all together is the partnership of Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, as well as Stanislav Lobotka in midfield, often paired with Piotr Zielinski.
Luciano Spalletti’s men were strong favourites to end up in the finals of the Champions League as well. But, they crashed out in the quarter finals against Milan. However, they won’t end the season trophyless with a league title only days away.
