FC Barcelona Transfer News: Looking to offload 17 players to balance books this summer

Barcelona’s financial struggles have been well documented over the past few seasons. This summer, they have been asked to reduce their expenses by €200 million by La Liga. One of the constraints is that they will not have the ability to use any more economic levers to pump in the money.

As a result, they are looking to part ways with players that they have on their books, but who don’t feature in their team. There are many such players who are either on loan, or have sell-on clauses which could help the club recuperate funds.

Barcelona to trim their books this summer through player sales

On loan players like Abde (Osasuna), Nico (Valencia), Sergino Dest (Milan), Clement Lenglet (Tottenham), Collado (Elche) and Samuel Umtiti (Lecce) will be returning to the club this summer. But, Barcelona are preparing to offload all of them except for Abde and Nico, who could have a shot at the first team.

On the other hand, players like Philippe Coutinho, Oscar Mingueza, Rey Manaj, Junior Firpo, Malcom and Jean-Clair Todibo all have sell-on clauses at their current clubs which could lead to Barcelona receiving a percentage of the fee.

This will create room on their accounts to register the new contracts of Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Marcos Alonso. And if they can make some money out of player sales, it could be easier for them to bring in new players like Inigo Martinez and Lionel Messi while complying with FFP rules.
