Barcelona stumbled to a second consecutive goalless draw in La Liga, as they couldn’t break the deadlock against Getafe.
The team was missing several key players such as Ousmane Dembele, Pedri and Frenkie De Jong which prevented Barcelona from breaking down their opponents with the same ease as they have had before. Only three of their 15 shots on goal were on target, and they couldn’t make the most of their dominance in possession.
Barcelona still winning the La Liga unless they collapse dramatically
An eleven point cushion with nine games to go would be considered safe. But given that Real Madrid is the team in second place, it is always going to be a challenge.
Barcelona have been given several lifelines – two by Villarreal, who defeated Madrid both times they have faced them. Madrid’s own shortcomings have also given their rivals a considerable advantage in the title race.
The most important factor, though, is Barcelona’s seemingly impenetrable defence in La Liga. They have only conceded nine goals in 29 league games. Plus, they are out of every other competition and only have the league to focus on. And for these reasons alone, they still have the league title in their bag.
Their biggest challenge now is to overcome an in-form Atletico Madrid in their next La Liga game. Pedri and Frenkie De Jong will be back for their next games, offering them a boost in attack.
However, with an eleven point lead established, it just seems too late for the La Liga title to be dropped by Barcelona.
