Barcelona transfer news: Inigo Martinez has completed all the paperwork to become a new player for the Catalonian side this summer. The defender will be leaving Athletic Club as his contract expires, and he will be moving to Camp Nou.
Martinez has accepted a two-year contract with the club, but Financial Fair Play will determine whether he will be registered or not. Barcelona have been unable to register their new contracts for Gavi and Ronald Araujo, and it remains to be seen whether they will have the space to register a new player.
Barca transfer news: Inigo Martinez and Sergino Dest updates
Should Barcelona be unable to register the centre-back, he would be sent out on loan for the season. This is something that the player has reportedly agreed to, in order to facilitate his transfer.
More Barcelona transfer news comes from Italy, as Sergino Dest has a blurry future since he hasn’t featured for AC Milan since January 24. The right-back has been pushed down in the pecking order with the re-emergence of club captain Davide Calabria. As a result, Milan will not trigger the €20 million buy option in his contract and he will return to Barcelona in the summer.
A decision on his future will be taken after talks at the end of the season. It looks unlikely that he will be staying with Barcelona since he wasn’t able to lock down a starting spot in the first attempt and hasn’t been able to impress on loan either.
