Everton charged with shocking FFP breach in spite of working with Premier League to cut down on £372m losses

Everton have been charged by the Premier League with FFP breaches, in a rather shocking revelation to the club. They are surprised that they are having to face these charges, having been assured last March that they were free to sign players.

Burnley and Leeds United complained to the league body over Everton’s spending last May. However, any claims failed to come to the forefront because this spending was allowed under special COVID revisions.

Everton FFP breaches: What can happen now?

As per the Financial Fair Play rules, clubs are only allowed to lose £105 million over a three-year period. And as per the latest accounts presented by Everton in 20/21, they have shown losses of £120.9m. Over the last four years, this figure has reached £371.8m. But, Everton have been working closely to cut down on their expenses with the Premier League.

However, the league body is facing some pressing questions, especially considering that they said that there was no case only nine months ago. The likelihood that Everton will have points deducted depends on whether the charges are proven against them.

The club have released a statement, saying that they are prepared to defend themselves and have always maintained transparency with the league body over their financial records.

Defending champions Manchester City have also been charged with over 100 breaches of FFP, over the last decade. And as things stand, they haven’t been given any punishment yet.
