Star Wars Jedi Survivor has managed to raise the level of excitement among fans following the announcement of its release date delay. The new story trailer, along with the recent gameplay reveal of both general exploration and combat stances, has answered a few questions that fans have had since the game’s initial announcement. Despite its brief length, Respawn Entertainment has managed to tease just enough to pique fans’ interest in the game.
Even though there are still plenty of gameplay and story-related announcements and reveals to come, some of this round’s revelations have given rise to even more rumours about what players can expect when they start playing Jedi Survivor.
Since the first reveal trailer for Star Wars Jedi Survivor, fans have been speculating whether developers had included companion gameplay similar to that seen in titles such as God of War Ragnarok.
This story trailer, in addition to confirming Merrin’s return, has all but confirmed the addition of companion gameplay. This was present in Jedi Survivor’s predecessor during Cal’s fight against Taron Malicos alongside the aforementioned Merrin, but it was not consistent and was only really noticeable once players dealt a significant amount of damage.
While this does not guarantee that companions will fight alongside players all the time rather than just during finisher-like attacks, the frequency with which Respawn Entertainment has shown this in promotion for Star Wars Jedi Survivor suggests that it will be heavily featured. This opens up the possibility of new combat strategies, as well as team finishers akin to Kratos and Atreus’ in God of War Ragnarok.
Given the dramatic improvement in visual fidelity, the stability of the gameplay, and the fact that Star Wars Jedi Survivor is a next-gen exclusive, fans have speculated that the upcoming game may include flight control when exploring new planets. Players could select their destination in Fallen Order and wait until a cutscene started before actually landing. While not a long-lasting feature, this was done in Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and it was enjoyable to see.
While fans have yet to learn how many new planets have been added to Star Wars Jedi Survivor, the trailer has done an excellent job of highlighting how beautiful the landscape and environment of these new locations are. Given the amount of exploration fans could be doing in Fallen Order, it’s no surprise that many have been hoping for a slew of new ones to visit.
Among all the pleasing and impressive features shown in the story trailer, the astounding leap in graphical prowess between Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Fallen Order is very clear. The updated character models, particularly those of Cal Kestis, promise high levels of graphical fidelity and hint at what fans can expect in terms of customization. It has been confirmed that players will be able to change Cal’s hairstyle, allowing them to customise the character’s appearance.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor releases on April 28th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
