Google Pixel devices are finally supporting Indian 5G network

The March Feature Drop has finally arrived on Google Pixel devices, after much anticipation. After a week of delay, the first Pixel Feature Drop of 2023 arrives with the March security patch as part of the Android 13 QPR2 update. Aside from all of the enhancements and bug fixes, the March Feature Drop adds 5G connectivity to Google Pixel smartphones in India.

5G support for Indian telecom operators was first enabled on Google Pixel in January with the Android 13 QPR beta. 5G connectivity is now available to all Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and Pixel 6a users in India, thanks to the stable release of Android 13 QPR.

Google’s most recent premium smartphones, the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, support 22 5G bands. In India, the low-cost Pixel 6a supports 19 5G bands.

Users can now experience 5G speed on their Pixel phones thanks to the March update. Before we begin, make sure you have downloaded and installed the March update on your Pixel phone. Additionally, ensure that you are using an Airtel or Jio sim card, as Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL do not support 5G in India.

Here’s how to turn on 5G on the Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, or Pixel 6A:

  1. Go to Settings on your Pixel phone.
  2. Tap on Network and Internet.
  3. Choose a SIM that supports 5G and tap on Network Preferences.
  4. Now, it will show you three options – 5G, LTE and 3G. Choose 5G.

5G support on Pixel smartphones has been long anticipated. With the update, Google Pixel becomes the last smartphone to join the 5G bandwagon in India, following the updates of Samsung and iPhones to support 5G connectivity in the country.

After updating to the March Feature drop, we checked for 5G connectivity on our Pixel 7 Pro, and we found it under the Preferred network type for both Airtel and Reliance Jio, which is also recommended. The Airtel 5G appears to be working properly on our Pixel 7 Pro, but we have yet to test the Jio 5G.
