Intel’s upcoming Panther Lake architecture leaks out

An Intel engineer appears to have revealed the name and key details about the company’s 16th-generation Core processor lineup. The LinkedIn profile of an Intel graphics hardware designer, first spotted by tipster @harukaze5719, revealed that the Panther Lake architecture will follow Lunar Lake and will include the Xe3-LPG architecture.

While the post has since been removed, Tom’s Hardware was able to capture a screenshot of Intel’s entire roadmap for the next few years, which includes Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, and Lunar Lake. While Meteor Lake is expected to replace Raptor Lake this year, Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake are expected to debut in 2024, with Panther Lake architecture following in 2025.

At the moment, little is known about Panther Lake architecture, but we do know that Lunar Lake is specifically designed for light and slim notebooks, implying that Panther Lake could be for consumer desktops.

LPG and HPG, as confirmed by Intel last month, will be the two sub-variants of the company’s Xe GPU architecture. The former will be optimised for integrated GPUs, while the latter will be optimised for discrete graphics chips. Meteor Lake CPUs are expected to be the first to feature iGPUs based on the new Xe-LPG GPU architecture, but Arrow Lake is also expected to use the same technology for its integrated graphics solution.

According to the LinkedIn post, Xe2 will be used by the Lunar Lake lineup and the Battlemage discrete GPUs, while Xe3 will be used by Panther Lake architecture and the company’s third-generation discrete GPUs known as ‘Celestial.’ The Xe3-LPG architecture is expected to be a scaled-down version of the Celestial Xe3-HPG GPU, but little else is known about it at this time.

Panther Lake and Celestial are far in the future, and there will almost certainly be more leaks in the run-up to their release. In the near future, Intel is expected to release a Raptor Lake refresh, as well as some Meteor Lake chips and new Arc Alchemist discrete GPUs, this year.
