AMD’s RDNA 2 iGPU, which is found on Ryzen 7000 CPUs, has been overclocked to 3.1 GHz. The iGPU on AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs uses the RDNA 2 graphics architecture, but it is not intended to be used as a gaming GPU. The main purpose of having this chip is to help PC users with diagnostics, but it can be overclocked like any other part of the Ryzen 7000 CPUs, as Skatterbencher has demonstrated.

While the AMD Radeon 680M “RDNA 2” iGPU achieves very playable frame rates in modern titles, it also has six times the compute units. The Ryzen 7000 series’ two compute units will be sufficient to power office PCs and perform lightweight graphics tasks while supporting new encode/decode technologies. In terms of specifications, the Radeon iGPU has two CUs that operate at a maximum frequency of 2200 MHz.

Skatterbencher tested the RDNA 2 iGPU with an AMD Ryzen 9 7900 on a Gigabyte B650E AORUS Tachyon motherboard.

At 1080p, the iGPU delivered around 12 FPS in Tomb Raider and 58 FPS on average in CS: GO with its default clocks. Enabling EXPO increased performance by up to 12%, indicating a memory bandwidth bottleneck. While this did not significantly improve gaming performance, it does demonstrate that more performance can be extracted from the RDNA 2 iGPU.

The graphics curve optimizer was used as the final overclocking method. The term “Radius” refers to the number of times a person can use the word “Radius” in a single sentence. That’s a +900 MHz overclock, which is enormous for an integrated chip. The results speak for themselves as well; the 40% OC resulted in a +42% increase in performance, demonstrating a linear performance progression.

The overclock increased the FPS in CS: GO from 58 to 80. And, while Tomb Raider cannot be played at 17 frames per second, it is still an improvement. At 720p resolution, it should run at around 30 FPS.
