Wrexham earned a 3-3 draw with Sheffield United in their FA Cup tie, setting up a replay. The Welsh club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will now play a repeat of the fixture for a spot in the last 16 of the tournament.
The team is three divisions below the Blades, but were extremely close to pulling off an upset win. That was until John Egan equalised for the visitors in the fifth minute of stoppage time to save their faces.
Wrexham to make it to the Premier League within the next ten years?
Currently in the fifth division of British football, Ryan Reynolds spoke about his hope for the club to climb up into the Premier League within the next decade. As of right now, they are at the top of the National League with 65 points and could be set for promotion very soon.
Here is what the Canadian actor has to say about his ambitions for Wrexham:
“I have mixed emotions, as you can imagine, but we were outstanding. We showed character, heart and quality,” the Canadian actor said after the match.
“In 10 years’ time the plan has and always will be the Premier League,” Reynolds explained.
“If it’s theoretically possible to go from the fifth tier to the Premier League, why wouldn’t we try?
“Nobody has ever done anything great in this world thinking: ‘You know what, let’s go halfway’, so let’s go all the way and we believe we can do that. Call us crazy, but that’s what we want to do.”
