Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has confirmed the contract extensions for four first team players, Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, Like Shaw and Fred. The contracts of all four players were set to run out in 2023. But, there was an option to extend them for a year on the side of the club.
And those options have all been triggered, meaning the players will be part of the team for at least one more year.
Manchester United extend contracts of four important first team players
“Yes, I can confirm it,” Ten Hag told the press.
“We are happy because the squad is going in the right direction and those players [have] a massive contribution in that direction.”
“We want to develop, we want to support those players and we want them to keep in our process,” the manager added.
“So, that’s why we came to those decisions, I’m sure they are the right decisions.
“We want to construct a team for the future, so for longer years, and those players have to be part of it.”
Manchester United’s strategy now is to negotiate new contracts with both Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot. The two players have been very impressive since the arrival of Erik Ten Hag. And the Dutchman considers both to be a key part of his plans for the future. As a result, he wants them to sign long-term deals with the club so that they can continue to feature in his line-up.
The futures of Luke Shaw and Fred, however, are yet to be finalised. There is a chance that either could leave, but there haven’t been any concrete developments as of yet.
