All the expectations went in vain as Indian cricket couldn’t perform well in the year. They faced their worst ODI defeat against Bangladesh yesterday and losing in the finals against England was disappointing. The team has seven such games in 2022. Let’s have a look at them.
A look back at the embarrassing losses suffered by the Indian men’s cricket team in 2022
1. India’s loss against South Africa in Tests by 2-1
India took a lead in the series but soon, things turned out to be in favour of South Africa. The men in blue lost the next two games in Johannesburg and Durban by 7 wickets. Post this game, India lost its test captain Virat Kohli as he decided to step down.
2. Being defeated by England in Edgbaston
In this game, India set a target of 378 runs but again lost the match by 7 wickets in the 4th innings. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow smashed tons and the series ended in a draw. Things looked good on the first three days but still, the Indian team couldn’t win.
3. South Africa won an ODI series by 3-0
The year started with a massive loss as India lost a 3-match series against South Africa in January 2022 by 3-0.
4. The T20 2-2 draw against South Africa at home
Under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, India lost the first two games in Delhi and South Africa. they managed to win the next two in Vizag and Rajkot. The fifth ODI was called off due to rain, for which the series ended in a draw.
5. India’s loss against England in the T20 World Cup semifinal
Team India once again shattered the hopes of billion people by losing against England by 10 wickets in the semifinal. India posted 168 runs but the Engish players made a mockery of the run chase with their super comfortable win.
6. Defeat against New Zealand in the ODI series by 1-0
India lost the ODI series against New Zealand at 1-0 under Shikhar Dhawan. The series was affected by rain. The men in blue lost the first game as New Zealand chased 307 runs in 48 overs. This was their second bilateral series loss in 2022.
7. Defeat against Bangladesh by one wicket in the ODIs
Recently, India had a shameful loss against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Rohit Sharma and Co. could only post 186 runs at the end of the first innings. The bowling department was brilliant, however, reducing Bangladesh to 136/9. Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman’s partnership of 51 runs made them win the game. KL Rahul’s catch drop of Mehidy cost them their first ODI.
