If you’re not keeping an eye on Cody Gakpo this season, you’re really missing out. The 23-year-old has been remarkable for PSV Eindhoven, and has been putting in great performances for the Netherlands in the World Cup as well.
His opening goal against Ecuador six minutes into the game is the fastest goal scored at the 2022 edition of the World Cup. And he has now scored two goals at the tournament, having netted once in the opener against Senegal.
Cody Gakpo showing the world why he’s the next big thing
Across all competitions for club and country, Cody Gakpo has scored 16 goals and 18 assists. His 34 goal contributions have come in only 28 games this season, which are amazing numbers. Especially for a 23-year-old.
It is almost accepted that the youngster will not be at PSV Eindhoven next year. This past summer, he had interest from the Premier League. But despite the likes of Southampton, Leeds United, Manchester United and Arsenal keeping tabs on him, a transfer did not go through.
But next year, the situation will be very different as some of the top clubs in the world will enter the race to prize him away.
