ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar has stepped down from his post after serving for almost 4 years as the chairman. The ICC Chairman election wasn’t very away either but he has stepped down immediately.
The ICC Board had a meeting today and has appointed Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja as the new ICC interim Chairman until a successor is elected in the coming weeks.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is tipped to be the next ICC Chairman. Ganguly hasn’t made his intentions clear yet, but if he decides to run for the post, he will surely get all the support of the board.
The new ICC interim Chairman Imran Khwaja said: “Everyone on the ICC Board extends their wholehearted thanks to Shashank for the commitment he has shown to our sport. There is no doubt that cricket owes Shashank a debt of gratitude for all he has done for the sport. He has left cricket and the ICC in a better place than he found it.”
ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “On behalf of the ICC Board and staff and the whole cricket family, I would like to thank Shashank for his leadership and everything he has done for the sport as ICC Chairman. We wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”
