Max Verstappen won the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix to break Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record of 13 wins in a season. The 2022 World Champion now holds the record for the most wins in a season alone, with 14 to his name.

With 22 races this year, there is a very good chance that Verstappen will extend his record. The 2004 season comprised 18 races, while the 2013 season had 19.

Lewis Hamilton finished second, albeit 15 seconds behind Verstappen while Red Bull’s Sergio Perez finished third to complete the podium. Ferrari, on the other hand, had a day to forget with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing fifth and sixth respectively.

“I never thought I would be able to win 14 races in a year, I am incredibly proud,” Max Verstappen said. “We’re definitely enjoying it and we’ll try to go for more.”

Hamilton has two more races to go if he wants to maintain his record of winning a race in every year of his career. However, with Mercedes’ performance this season, and Verstappen’s dominance, it seems quite unlikely.

In the standings, Perez has moved up to second above Leclerc, dismantling their early title hopes even further.
