Both December and The Callisto Protocol are almost here. Let’s quickly go through what is known about the game and its features because the upcoming title from Striking Distance Studios and Glen Schofield (co-creator of the Dead Space series) is scheduled to debut in early December.
The game, along with other titles, was first introduced back in December 2020 at The Game Awards. An expanded look at the game’s universe and characters was provided by a red-band trailer that was soon after released.
They will have to disregard the PC version because it is not qualified for the Collector’s Edition. Unfortunately, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have to buy the title separately from everyone else. Striking Distance Studios has undoubtedly considered adding it to the hugely successful programme, but they believe the approach is unrealistic for single-player games developed by independent studios.
The Callisto Protocol’s Deluxe Edition has the following features:
- The Callisto Protocol main game
- The Retro Prisoner character skin
- two Retro Prisoner weapon skins
- The game’s Season Pass
the game’s Collector’s Edition includes the following:
- The Callisto Protocol main game
- The Retro Prisoner character skin
- two Retro Prisoner weapon skins
- The game’s Season Pass
- a statue of Jacob, the game’s main character
- Steelbook Case
- TCP Comic #0 Edition
- an Outer Way Collectable Pin
- a UJC Collectible Pin
- 48-hour Advanced Access to Story DLC (exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4)
The PC version requirements are important for the game. To even run The Callisto Protocol, you need to meet these specifications:
- A 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10/11
- Processor: Intel Core i5-7500 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200 4 Cores
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- DirectX: Version 11
Meanwhile, the recommended requirements for The Callisto Protocol are as follows:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10/11
- Processor: AMD Athlon 5350 (6 Available Cores)
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- DirectX: Version 12
Next, it was confirmed that The Callisto Protocol, as well as a number of other titles including Hitman III, Grounded, Forspoken, and Microsoft Flight Simulator, would support AMD’s Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2.0 (or FSR for short).
Regarding AMD, The Callisto Protocol was announced as an official partner for AMD hardware at the beginning of August. In other words, it’s highly likely that NVIDIA DLSS won’t be included in The Callisto Protocol at launch.
Finally, ray tracing has recently been confirmed for The Callisto Protocol’s PC version of the game (along with some Unreal 5 components) and a year’s worth of updates are on the way. This brings us to last week, when a fresh trailer appeared that explored the mysteries of Black Iron Prison.
The Callisto Protocol’s connection to the continuity of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds was severed a few months ago when it was formally severed from its initial location (within that game’s reality). The main character, Jacob Lee (played by Josh Duhamel), is on a mission to escape from Black Iron Prison and survive in its own reality.
Jacob will run away from or have to fight against numerous dangerous monsters he comes across while exploring. Black Iron also has a number of traps and cinematics that, if the player isn’t paying attention, can instantly kill Jacob. This necessitates constant attention. He will encounter Leon, the Captain of the Prison Guard, who is portrayed by Sam Witwer, as well as Dani Nakamura, the leader of a rebel group, who is portrayed by Karen Fukuhara.
Soon later, at Sony’s June 2022 State Of Play, footage was revealed, showing Jacob exploring Black Iron Prison as well as the game’s extremely detailed brutality and gore. The game will emulate Dead Space by featuring graphic and visceral death scenes in which the main character may perish from environmental dangers or be executed by the game’s monsters.
By the time September 2022 arrives, Striking Distance Studios has finally clarified some of the key nuances of The Callisto Protocol’s combat system. The GRP (or “Grip”) mechanic is used to fuel a combination of ranged and melee combat. To avoid getting into too much difficulty, enemies must be eliminated effectively and precisely.
Enemies will start to suffer from Mutations if uncontrolled. They will become much deadlier, stronger, and more difficult to kill as a result of these mutations. Just picture it when you’re dealing with a roomful of Mutated creatures if that’s uncomfortable. There will also be quick-time events from other cinematics, and if you miss any of them, you’ll die, as you might think.
On December 2, 2022, the game will be made available via Steam and the Epic Games Store for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. The Callisto Protocol is now up for pre-order in three different versions: Day One Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Collector’s Edition (not available for PC). For $59.99 on PC or $69.99 on consoles, the Day One Edition includes the game, the Retro Prisoner character skin, and two Retro Prisoner weapon skins.
