David De Gea recently made his 500th appearance for Manchester United, achieving yet another milestone in his illustrious career. The Spaniard is currently the longest serving player in the squad, having been signed under Sir Alex Ferguson as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar.
De Gea’s current deal runs out at the end of the season. But, Manchester United have the option to extend it for another 12 months. The player has also expressed a desire to sign a new deal with the Mancunian side, but no negotiations are in place right now.
David De Gea talks about his ambitions beyond Manchester United contract
‘This is my club and where I feel good,’ he said. ‘I’m playing well and I feel very well. I have many more years to play. Yes, I would like to stay here more years and make records for games and everything.
‘I’d like to try to help the young people here as well with my experience and try to win trophies. I feel very confident.’
‘I’m really proud and can’t wait to play Newcastle and try to win. Nobody expects to play that many years and that many games. It’s unbelievable and I consider it a privilege.’
David De Gea’s shot-stopping abilities are unquestionable, while his distribution has come under criticism recently. It remains to be seen whether Erik Ten Hag will want to continue with the 31-year-old or opt for a new goalkeeper.
