Airtel launches IoT services for Automobile Makers

The dual profile M2M eSIM in Bharti Airtel’s “Always On” Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solution, which enables an IoT device to remain connected to the networks of two telecom carriers, was introduced on Friday in India.

According to a statement from Airtel, the solution meets with the AIS-140 standard put in place by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and developed by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) (MoRTH).

The company continued by saying that the solution is “ideally suited” for automakers, vehicle monitoring companies, and any other use cases where equipment operation in remote areas need constant communication.

According to the release, top businesses including telematics provider Lumax ITuran, fleet technology provider Loconav, and provider of vehicle monitoring systems e-Trans have already tested and chosen Airtel’s AIS-140 solution.

For tracking, safety, and security purposes, the AIS-140 standard specifies necessary standards for connectivity and GPS tracking capabilities for devices in all passenger-carrying buses, private fleets, and other public transportation vehicles.

According to Airtel, with the help of its GSMA-compliant platform, API-based eSIM lifecycle management, Airtel IoT Hub, and adherence to the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) M2M rules, the company hopes to take the lead in this industry over the next years.
