Since the launch of the Ryzen 4000U powered APUs this year, a lot of OEMs are switching to these powerful and efficient AMD APUs and many are still yet to do so. Intel is now getting dominated by AMD on the thin and light notebook section as well because these 7nm based Zen 2 APUs are much more efficient and performs even better than higher-priced Intel mobile CPUs.
Now, in the middle of all this, @TUM_APISAK has spotted an interesting device, actually by Microsoft powered by the latest AMD Ryzen 7 4800U, which if you recall is a 8 core, 16 threaded mobile APU operating at 15 W TDP. It has a base clock speed of 1.8GHz and up to 4.2GHz boost clock speed along with 8MB L3 cache, making it a total beast at low profile.
Now, this has raised new speculation in the community whether this could be the next Surface Laptop 4? It is because we have seen Ryzen APUs on the Surface Laptop 3 i.e. the Zen+ based Ryzen 5 3580U and Ryzen 7 3780U.
Microsoft has a good record working with AMD and its next device could well be powered by a lot of Ryzen 4000 APUs, and you never know, AMD might tweak these processors exclusively for Microsoft as well. Hopefully, with days we will get more leaks and details of the upcoming AMD powered Microsoft devices.
