Apple is set to unveil its next generation of iPhones – iPhone 14 series at an event scheduled for September 7. As the date gets closer, more leaks and rumours about the upcoming iPhone 14 range are coming.
The rumour mill has claimed for quite some time that this year’s iPhone range will include two notches at the top of the screen. One will be for the camera, and the other is for Face ID. It’s been dubbed a hole-and-pill design.
Apple may be planning to use the ‘unified’ display cutout in 14 pro
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Apple will bridge the pill and hole-shaped cutouts in the iPhone 14 Pro display with software. The company is planning to black out the between the two cutouts to provide an illusion that will make them look like “one wide pill-shaped cutout,” the report mentions. However, a new report claims to explain how Apple will use the single unified pill-shaped cutout.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the single cutout was first presumed to remain as a dead space, but that might not be accurate. The report claims that Apple is likely to use this space to make its privacy indicators for the camera and microphone more visible. A new leak from MacRumours, which cites “an anonymous tipster”, has claimed the two notches will appear as a single pill-shaped notch when the iPhone 14 Pro’s display is on and active.
Another rumours floating around today claims that the iPhone 14 Pro display’s pill- and hole-shaped cuts will be covered by software. In essence, Apple will obscure the space in between the two cutouts. Apple may have turned off pixels in “dead space” between cutouts to create a consistent pill shape that is less obtrusive when watching information.
Apple may make the area broader to fit left and right status icons, or extend it downward into a huge rounded square for specific notifications. This allows Apple to show both the green and orange dots when the camera and microphone are both activated. The screen will simply display a green dot if an app uses the camera and microphone.
But these are just rumours at this point. Apple has evaluated and planned to deploy these iPhone 14 Pro display enhancements. As software features, they could be updated or removed after final testing. We are expecting a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch iPhone Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max on next Wednesday, September 7.
