After two and a half long years, the Kolkata Derby is finally back at the Salt Lake Stadium, in front of the fans. East Bengal and ATK Mohun Bagan will face off for the first time in the new season, and will see a packed stadium cheer them on for the first time since 2020.
The last time East Bengal won a derby was in 2019, when both clubs played in the I-League. Since their switch to the ISL, the Mariners have had the clear advantage. One of the main reasons behind this was the inception of East Bengal as a new team from the I-League. On the other hand, Mohun Bagan merged with ATK FC at the time.
Kolkata Derby returns to the Salt Lake Stadium
Both teams are far from done when it comes to their transfer activity. And this might not be the way the teams line-up when the ISL season gets underway. And interestingly, both teams are yet to get their first win in the Durand Cup.
East Bengal have earned two points from their two games, while ATK Mohun Bagan have only earned one so far. They will be looking to get their first three points on the board, and the track record favours them today.
Since their move to the ISL, the Kolkata Derby has always been won by ATK Mohun Bagan. There has been no draw or victory for the Red and Gold club. As a result, Stephen Constantine’s men will be extra motivated to try and end this unfortunate run in the big fixture today.
