East Bengal have signed Kamaljit Singh from Odisha FC, after triggering his release clause. The goalkeeper will be making the move to the Red and Gold club in the coming days, upon completing the formalities for the transfer.
Interestingly, the player only recently signed a contract extension with the Juggernauts until 2025. But now, he will be making the move to Stephen Constantine’s side in preparation of the new season.
Kamaljit Singh will join East Bengal for 22/23
The Punjabi keeper played 12 times last season, and has also featured for FC Pune City and Hyderabad FC in the past. He has made 44 appearances in the ISL, and was called up to the national team under Igor Stimac last year.
Having been a captain of his previous clubs, Kamaljit Singh will provide some well needed leadership to the backline. This might result in a much better defensive performance from East Bengal this season.
Following the appointment of Constantine, Sumeet Passi and Lalchungnunga have also been recruited to bolster the squad. Passi has worked with the coach previously in the Indian National team, for whom he earned eight caps.
On the other hand, Lalchungnunga has been signed on a loan deal from I-League club Sreenidi Deccan FC. The centre-back was named in the team of the season for 21/22 and will now be hopeful of performing well at a new level.
