Indian Army will improve frontline soldier communications with 5G

To increase communication and provide a fast data network for operational needs, the Indian Army is attempting to create a 5G network along the border. To improve communication, China has already started the process of establishing a 5G network along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

As per sources in the military establishment, the Indian Army has been attempting to use 5G to support operations in the tactical combat region.

As per the sources, it states that the 5G network’s claimed high bandwidth, and low latency connectivity is thought to be more suitable for mission-critical communication for soldiers engaged in operations at the front lines of the battlefield.

Under the direction of the Corps of Signals, a thorough Joint Services Study was conducted on the adoption of 5G in Defence Services. The study has suggested a plan for the introduction of 5G into the Defense Forces after considering the issue.

Military College of Telecommunication Engineering and IIT Madras has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a 5G testbed. The testbed will make it easier for a field army to validate 5G’s military use cases. Smart surveillance, telemedicine, drone control, and real-time augmented and virtual reality for training and operations are a few of the operational uses being investigated.

After receiving bids totaling more than 1.50 lakh crore from four businesses, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and Adani Data Networks, the government successfully concluded the spectrum auction on Monday. By October of this year, India is anticipated to see the launch of fifth-generation (5G) telecommunications services.
