East Bengal are gearing up for the new season, and have announced former Indian national team coach Stephen Constantine as their new head coach. The Englishman returns to India for his first spell in charge of a club.
He managed the Blue Tigers between 2002- 2005 and 2015-2019. He helped the team win the Tri-Nation Series and Intercontinental Cup during his time in charge. He also led them to the AFC Asian Cup between the four years. As a result, good things are expected out of his new venture with the Red and Gold club as well.
East Bengal announce Stephen Constantine as new head coach
“Emami Group and East Bengal Club are delighted to announce that the former India national team head coach, Stephen Constantine, has been appointed as our head coach for the 2022-23 football season,” read the club’s official statement.
Following a disappointing first two seasons in the ISL, East Bengal are prepared to turn things around. They have ended their partnership with Shree Cement and are now set to join forces with Emami Group.
The two parties have reached an agreement over sponsorship and will be signing the binding agreement on August 2. The team building process is already underway, with Emami giving the club permission to start their activities early.
Other ISL clubs have already started finalising their squads ahead of the new season. As a result, the Red and Golds will have to be quick and decisive when it comes to their business in terms of transfers.
