Barcelona were hit by a financial crisis which saw them unable to renew the contract for the best player Lionel Messi in 2021. The Argentine was forced to leave the club as he joined PSG on a free transfer. The Spanish club is in one of the worst financial debts.

However, Barcelona has been quite active in the transfer market this summer. The most notable signing is that of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. The Poland international spent a hugely successful 8 years at Bayern but has publicly wanted to leave the club and join Barcelona. After a few months of negotiation, Barcelona has finally signed their striker.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has now questioned how can Barcelona still sign players despite having no money. He said: “It is the only club in the world that have no money, but then buy all the players they want. I don’t know how they do it. It’s a bit strange, a bit crazy.”

This question is not only asked by Julian Nagelsmann but also by many others. Barcelona are currently €1.3bn in debt and were struggling to register players in both transfer windows. And after the additions of Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha and Lewandowski, the Blaugrana have spent a further €103m, as per Transfermarkt. So everybody is surprised and wants to know how can Barcelona sign so many players despite being in debt.
