7nm based Intel Ocean Cove architecture to deliver 80% gains in IPC?

Intel is having a hard time in both laptop and PC department, most of its CPUs are not much appealing to high performance craving buyers. The inability to shift to a 10 nm or 7 nm has resulted Intel in loosing market share to AMD rapidly, and this needs a fix for such a big company like Intel.

Recently, a Weibo user posted the estimates for process node and IPC gains for Intel’s upcoming Ocean Cove and Golden Cove architecture. This was spotted by the reliable Twitter user @MebuiW.

So, according to the tipster, Intel’s Ocean Cove architecture based on 7 nm process is supposed to release in 2022 or 2023. Along with that, the architecture is said to provide a humongous 80% increase to IPC with respect to the age-old Skylake architecture.

Also this might help Intel to pass the 5.5 GHz barrier or even reach 6 GHz with more efficient process nodes. But it is worth noting that at which pace AMD is going, in 2022 or 2023, the upcoming Ryzen 5000 CPUs deliver even better performance from its upcoming Zen 3 based Ryzen 4000 CPUs, jumping from 7 nm to 5 nm.

If this rumour actually becomes truth then by the time Intel comes up with its 7nm Ocean Cove architecture, AMD will certainly be on the verge of using the enhanced 5nm process or even better process on its desktop CPUs. Overall, this lack of switching to a modern process node for Intel might be costly over the time, benefitting AMD to gain market share.
