Lucas Torreira will not be staying at Fiorentina for the coming season. The midfielder will be returning to Arsenal this summer as them and Fiorentina failed to reach an agreement over the €15 million buy option included in his loan deal.

The Uruguayan was very impressive during his time with them, and was named their player of the month three times in 2022 alone. As a result of his newfound form, it was expected that his transfer to Florence would be made permanent. But, it seems like that will not be the case.

Fiorentina submitted a €7 million bid for the player, which Arsenal naturally rejected. Lucas Torreira posted a statement on his official social media accounts, ending all hopes of an extended stay at Fiorentina. He added:

“Know that I did my best to continue being part of this club, but unfortunately there were those who, acting in a bad way, according to my understanding, managed to prevent this from happening and that is why I have to leave.

“I wish you the best for the future. You will have one more fan cheering from wherever I have to be.”

The 26-year-old has little chances of staying at Arsenal for the coming season. He only has one year remaining on his contract with the North London side. And as a result, he will have to be loaned out or sold this summer in a busy transfer window.
