After a long time, MediaTek is going to launch another affordable chipset with 5G connectivity supported on May 7.
The previously affordable chipsets by MediaTek were Dimensity 800, Dimensity 1000 and Dimensity 1000L. All of them also supported 5G connectivity, among which the Dimensity series are for more premium mid-range devices.
The Dimensity 1000L was a very powerful chipset which even out-scored in AnTuTu some similar ranged Snapdragon chipsets specially Snapdragon 765G which also supports 5G connectivity.
Leakster Digital Chat Station mentioned an MT6853(code name) chip which is reportedly aiming at the entry-level smartphone segment. The marketing name of this chip is still unknown.
Both Redmi K30i and Oppo A92s can feature the Dimensity 800 chipset until MediaTek launches any other affordable chipset next week. Even Redmi is also targeting to bring down the cost of 5G devices with Redmi K30i around $250, so it is important for chipset makers to come up with something cheap and working.
The Dimensity 800 is code-named MT6873V. Allegedly, work on the Dimensity 2000 is progressing according to plan as well.
