Nvidia and AMD GPU Prices are steadily coming down-hill in April 2022

According to 3D Center Germany’s Easter weekend roundup, graphics card costs have continued to increase throughout April. AMD GPU costs have dropped 13% on average over the last three weeks, while Nvidia GPU prices have dropped 6%.

In April, the pricing curve for Nvidia graphics cards appears to be flattening. It could be an indicator that “the heyday of quick price reductions is now over,” according to the source site. These supply/demand pricing curves, on the other hand, are not necessarily smooth or predictable.

Nvidia and AMD GPUs were both 25% over MSRPs at the end of March, according to 3D Center’s previous data. This may have been enough to entice some Nvidia fans who had been hiding from the storm for months. On the other hand, the supply of Nvidia GPUs may have slowed in recent weeks due to a variety of factors. After both Nvidia and AMD being 25% above MSRP at the end of March, Nvidia GPUs are now 19% over MSRP, and AMD GPUs are now 12% over MSRP, on average.

German Market is the battleground for AMD and Nvidia

The source site is German, and it uses a variety of online businesses throughout the country to calculate average pricing and availability. The German market appears to be extremely competitive, with nine shops listed, and we know that graphics cards will be available elsewhere online, such as on Amazon Germany or eBay Germany.

Another thing to keep in mind about the German results: they do not include GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPUs. These halo GPUs were released fairly soon and made accessible at list price, with little in the way of supply issues. Furthermore, the RTX 3080 12GB is not mentioned because it lacks an official MSRP.

At this point in the refresh cycle, GPU pricing should be 10 to 20% lower than MSRP. AMD is expected to do a final rapid refresh of its Radeon RX 6000 series before launching the Radeon RX 7000 later this year. Meanwhile, the recently released GeForce RTX 3090 Ti appears to be the Ampere family’s final member, with Ada Lovelace GPUs due in the autumn.

Given how easy it is to wait for the next-generation graphics cards, this point in the GPU refresh cycle would normally only attract buyers with significant price reductions. Nvidia’s cards, on the other hand, will end up 13 per cent over MSRP by the beginning of May if the company’s price decline continues. In the same way, assuming AMD’s price decrease continues, the average price in early May will be equal to MSRP.
