The DFB Sports Court has stated that Bayern Munich’s win over Freiburg in the Bundesliga will not be overturned despite them briefly having 12 players on the pitch

Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier went ahead and protested the game’s result after it was hinted that they might do so in the post-match interview. But, their appeal has been declined by the official body, who state that the result will stand as it is.

Bayern Munich stride towards another Bundesliga title

To the claims that Freiburg would appeal the confusing situation, Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann responded: ‘From a personal point of view, I can’t understand why Freiburg is doing this. I don’t know if you can pat yourself on the back if you should play internationally because of three points that you didn’t actually win in sport.’

But, the DFB Sports Court Chairman Stephan Oberholz explained: ‘The low proportion of blame on the part of Munich is not enough ‘to justify the serious legal consequences of a game revaluation.’

Marcel Sabitzer and Niklas Sule were subbed on in the last minutes of the game, while Corentin Tolisso came off due to an illness. Kingsley Coman was also supposed to make way, but a mix-up with the number board caused the winger to stay on as he was unaware.

Now, the decision has been finalised and Bayern Munich turn their attention to Augsburg over the weekend. They will then have to pull off a comeback against Villarreal in the Champions League to make it to the semi-finals in mid-week.
