Apple reportedly to launch a new iMac Pro with mini-LED on its March 8 Event

With less than a week until Apple’s March 8 ‘Peek Performance’ event, we’ll know what new hardware will be available to millions of people. Of course, there will always be other speculations before the announcements, the most recent of which is that Apple would debut the iMac Pro instead of the entry-level M2 MacBook Pro.

Customers who have been missing the Touch Bar from Apple’s portable Mac lineup may have their prayers answered on March 8, according to speculations that an entry-level MacBook Pro will be announced. However, according to DuanRui, Apple will instead show out the iMac Pro. Our opinion is that it is easier to give the general public a product that does not need to be built from the ground up.

Take the M2 MacBook Pro, for example, which is said to have little to no differences from the M1 MacBook Pro other than a chipset upgrade. There isn’t much information on the M2’s chipset, but we know that it will have an 8-core processor with a 10-core GPU. Despite the outdated design, the improved performance and power efficiency will entice many buyers to purchase this MacBook Pro, and those that require the Touch Bar will be able to do so as well.

Apple is increasing the display size to 27 inches and introducing mini-LED technology into the mix for the iMac Pro, which will not use an existing chassis. Though the workstation is believed to be equipped with Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets, creating a device like this takes months, and there are likely to be multiple tweaks before a commercial machine is ready to reach the stores.

The Apple Silicon transition is said to be finished in June, but that could be an announcement, with the actual product arriving much later. We’ll be overjoyed if Apple surprises us with an iMac Pro debut next week, as seeing new hardware is always exciting. Unfortunately, our instinct still tells us that the announcements will only include the M2 MacBook Pro.
