Last season, they advanced 3-1 on aggregate after defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in the second leg of the semi-final. Moving forward to this season, Chelsea started their European home form with a 1-0 victory over Zenit St Petersburg.

Then came an easy 4-0 victory against Malmo, followed by a stunning 4-0 victory over Juventus. The win over Lille makes it five wins in a row for the Blues, who will try to keep their two-goal advantage when they return to France on March 16.

Five Wins in a Row

Chelsea took the lead after seven minutes when Kai Havertz headed home in a Hakim Ziyech corner. Chelsea would go on to extend their lead shortly after the hour mark, when Christian Pulisic was slipped in by N’Golo Kante, setting up the return leg next month with a strong chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

Following the encounter against Lille, Chelsea has now been confirmed to have set a new record. Chelsea has set a new milestone by becoming the first English team to win five consecutive home games in the Champions League or European Cup without conceding a goal, with victories over Lille, Juventus, Malmo, Zenit, and Real Madrid.
