Apple to launch its next-gen AirPods with Lossless audio and location tracking charge case

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the second-generation AirPods Pro will support Lossless audio and have a charging case that can emit a sound for location tracking.

According to a note to investors obtained by MacRumors, the second-generation AirPods Pro will have new selling factors such as compatibility for Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio and a charging case from which users can trigger a sound to signify their location.

Users can presently make a sound from their AirPods within the case to assist find them, so this sound-emitting charging case will likely interact with the Find My app. This corresponds to rumored leaked photographs of the next-generation AirPods Pro, which showed a charging case with speaker holes for emitting a sound for location tracking, allowing the earphones and case to be located separately.

Lossless audio is not supported by any of Apple’s current AirPods products, including the third-generation AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max. Because AirPods use Bluetooth to transmit audio, they can only use the AAC codec. To avoid Bluetooth and enable a Lossless listening experience, higher quality Apple Lossless Audio Codec files may need to be streamed directly to AirPods, but Apple could develop an alternative solution.

Kuo also confirmed that the next-generation earphones will have a redesigned design and will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022, which is slightly later than other speculations’ third-quarter predictions. Kuo still thinks AirPods will support health monitoring features in the future, but he didn’t link this rumor to the second-generation AirPods Pro.
