Australia have retained the Ashes trophy after humiliating England by an innings defeat. The World Cup winners were bowled out at 68 after a tremendous performance from Scott Boland.

The Aussies have won the Ashes by winning 3 tests out of 5 in the series. The remaining two matches will be a matter of pride for England, with little else to play for between the two rivals.

Joe Root was the highest scorer for England, and Ben Stokes joined him as the only other player to score double figures against their rivals.

Scott Boland becomes the joint-fastest player to take six wickets in a game

“Can’t really believe. We thought we had a chance of winning today when we came in, but just not so quickly. I came to know on Christmas Eve, and had a lot of support from teammates and family. It was a big step up from anything that I have played, and I knew it would be tough. I want to thank the crowd for all their support over the last three days, really appreciate it,” he said after the match.

“I’m speechless as well, had no idea it would be over so soon. Those are my best-ever figures, nothing has happened this quickly before. They (the crowd) were amazing, going down there (near the boundary) gave me a real buzz,” he added.

His five-wicket haul came in nineteen deliveries, which is a sensational return especially considering he only conceded seven runs. He joins Stuart Broad and Ernie Toshack as the fastest to five wickets in Test matches.
