Liverpool are considering a transfer for Barcelona midfielder Gavi. The player has a release clause worth €50 million in his contract with the club, and is emerging as one of the standout youngsters in La Liga this season.
The 17-year-old made his debut for the first team in August, under Ronald Koeman. He has since gone on to become a regular starter under new manager Xavi as well. The absence of 2021 Golden Boy Pedri due to injury has also helped in his development, through more game time.
Why do Liverpool need Gavi?
With Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago all well above 30 years old, Jurgen Klopp is looking for younger players to hold the midfield. And Gavi could be one of the perfect names to inherit the midfield berth under the German coach.
The Merseyside club is in the race for the Premier League title this season, and they are currently second in the table. Alongside Bayern Munich and Ajax, they were one of the three teams to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League with six wins out of six.
To compete on all fronts now, and in the future, Liverpool are looking to bring a talented midfielder among their ranks. Gavi seems to be one of the more surprising names on their transfer list since he is a Barcelona academy graduate. Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Philips are among the other names that are being rumoured alongside the Spanish teenager.
