FC Goa picked up their second win of the season against Bengaluru FC, winning 2-1 in a heated encounter. Here are the three key talking points from the game.
Red card drama
Jorge Ortiz was the first to be shown a red card after he reacted to Suresh Wangjam’s strong challenge with a shove. He has been Goa’s top attacking threat so far, and will miss their next game.
Wangjam would be sent off later in the night, picking up another yellow after the incident on Ortiz. As a result, both teams finished the game with ten men each.
Disappointment for Bengaluru FC
Bengaluru FC had a number of chances to win the game, and equalise as well. Sunil Chhetri in particular had a golden opportunity to become the joint-highest goalscorer in the ISL. But, his effort went over the bar. Cleiton Silva managed to score directly from a long free-kick, in what will be one of the goal of the season contenders.
Moreover, despite Prince Ibara’s attacking spark for Bengaluru, they were unable to change the shape of the scoreline. They are now in second last place with four points from six games.
FC Goa’s season doesn’t look all that bad now
After waiting 3 games to pick up their first points in the ISL, Goa now have two wins on the spin. They are two points away from the top four, and suddenly, their season doesn’t look as poor now. The question now is whether they will be able to keep up this form in their next games to ensure something meaningful at the end of the season?
