After the end of Day Four, most cricket fans believed that India would cruise towards an emphatic victory in the first test of a four-match series. However, India’s hopes of winning the first match were thwarted by rain and as a result, England was saved from the jaws of defeat. The match ended in a draw as rain played a major role in the entire test match.

To summarize the day, India required 157 runs off 98 overs with nine wickets to spare. Therefore cricket fans were waiting in anticipation to watch some good cricket on the last day of the test. But that didn’t seem to be the case as rain didn’t allow any action on day five of the test.

Just as Indian fans and players hoped that covers would come off, rain intervened again until the umpires and groundsmen discussed with each other and abandoned the fifth day due to rain.

As a result, Bumrah’s magical spell and Rahul’s magnificent knock went in vain as India drew the first test against England. Further, let’s take a look at the takeaways from the First Test and which team of the two will be happier after today.

What can India and England Takeaway from this Test Match?

The Indian team was in a winning position after day four and ended up drawing the test match due to uncontrollable circumstances. However, the team has a lot of positives to take away from this test match.

  1. Bumrah’s resurgence to form with an impressive Five Wicket Haul

Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling looked lackluster as he went wicketless in the finals of the World Test Championship against New Zealand. However, he shrugged off his past couple of performances and took nine wickets in this test match to help India gain momentum. Moreover, the entire bowling attack gave able support to Bumrah as Shami took three wickets in the first innings. Whereas Siraj and Thakur chipped in with a couple of wickets in each innings. Therefore India would be happy with the bowling performance.

KL Rahul and Jadeja’s remarkable batting in the First Innings

KL Rahul must be relieved after he got some much-needed runs in the first innings. Moreover, he looked in good touch and played a controlled innings to help the Indian team. On the other hand, Jadeja anchored the innings while India was in trouble and then added runs quickly following the wicket of Rahul.

As a result, India will be happy with the performances of Jadeja and Rahul going into the second test. Going forward, the team knows that even though the top order collapses, the team could bank on Jadeja’s experience after his impressive 56.

England’s Takeaways from the match

The English team has a lot to think about after a dismal batting performance in both innings. Apart from Joe Root, none of the other batsmen made any good contributions and threw away their starts. Although England must be happy after the captain found his form as he scored a hundred and a half-century.

The performances of James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, and Joe Root are the only positives that England can take away from this test match. As a result, England has to regroup and come back stronger for the second test.
