Micro-Star International or MSI is a common name in the PC peripherals market with a wide range of motherboards, components and of course GPUs from both NVIDIA & AMD.

So, MSI expects its overall motherboard and graphics card shipments, both brand and OEM ones, to reach a whopping 24 million units in 2021, as per the company’s chairman Joseph Hsu.

Thanks to the work-from-home culture and people still being enclosed inside their house, gaming is playing a major role in entertaining people. MSI’s strong brand recognition of its gaming lineups has helped them selling various items like notebooks, motherboards, graphics cards and monitors.

This has been in demand since the second quarter of 2020, Hsu said during an investors meeting on July 16. Much like other OEMs, MSI also posted record revenues this year, reporting consolidated revenues of NT$146.5 billion (US$5.18 billion) for 2020, with net profits reaching NT$7.96 billion and EPS NT$9.42.

As Digitimes reported, MSI’s first-quarter 2021 revenues and profits also reached the highest quarterly levels ever due to crypto mining applications’ robust demand for graphics cards, which also led to increased ASPs.

However, one reason i.e. China’s crackdown on crypto mining could undermine graphics card companies’ revenues and profits in the second half of 2021. Although Hsu remains optimistic that finally, the demand from the gaming market will remain strong.
