MSI’s New 4-Liter Desktop Packs 128GB of Memory and Runs AI Models Locally

MSI PRO MAX EDGE AI+ Desktop: A PC small enough to fit in a backpack, powerful enough to run 120-billion-parameter AI models without touching the cloud

MSI has formally launched the PRO MAX EDGE AI+ 11M, a 4-liter desktop built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 300 series chips, according to VideoCardz. It’s not an entirely new design — MSI first showed the same hardware as the “AI Edge” desktop back in January and displayed it again at Computex in June — but this marks the finalized commercial launch, positioning it squarely at professionals who want serious local AI power without a bulky tower.

This fits the broader shift TechnoSports has been tracking in compact, AI-capable computing this year, as manufacturers race to fit workstation-class performance into desk-friendly form factors.

Why 128GB of Memory Is the Real Headline

The standout feature isn’t raw processing power — it’s the unified memory pool. With up to 128GB of LPDDR5X and up to 96GB dynamically allocatable as graphics memory, MSI says the system can run large language models with up to 120 billion parameters entirely offline, sidestepping the VRAM limitations that typically force AI workloads into the cloud. MSI even claims multiple PRO MAX EDGE AI+ units can be clustered together to handle even larger models collaboratively and quotes roughly 15 tokens per second when running LLMs at that scale locally.

For businesses and developers handling sensitive data, that’s the core pitch: genuine on-device AI inference with no data leaving the machine, in a chassis a fraction the size of a typical workstation tower.

Beyond AI: Everyday and Gaming Use

MSI isn’t positioning this purely as an AI appliance. The Radeon 8060S iGPU puts gaming performance roughly in GeForce RTX 4060 territory, making the PRO MAX EDGE AI+ a genuinely capable machine for day-to-day computing and light gaming too — a versatility that’s becoming a selling point across compact AI PCs launching this year. A physical hardware switch lets users toggle between performance, balanced, and quiet thermal profiles without digging into software menus.

What’s Missing

MSI has not announced pricing or regional availability yet, so it’s unclear when — or at what cost — this reaches markets like India. Given the premium positioning of AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 platform, expect this to sit well above typical mini PC pricing once official numbers arrive.

Bottom Line

The PRO MAX EDGE AI+ 11M is a strong signal of where compact desktops are headed: less about raw benchmark numbers, more about fitting workstation-grade local AI capability into a footprint that sits comfortably on a desk. With pricing still unannounced, the real test comes once MSI reveals what this capability will actually cost.
