Achraf Hakimi is now officially a PSG player, as announced by the French club on their social media accounts. The Moroccan has signed a five-year contract with PSG until 2026, and is the first big signing of the summer in European football.

PSG agreed a deal worth €60 million upfront, and potentially €11 million in add-ons with Inter Milan, that has seen them lure away one of the most promising talents in the continent away only one season after he came to Italy from Real Madrid.

Inter signed Hakimi in the summer of 2020 for €40 million, and he went on to have a great season for the Nerazzurri, helping them win the Serie A after over a decade to add to their accomplishments. However, financial difficulties caught up with the management of the club and they absolutely had to let go of crucial players to raise money through sales.

Antonio Conte did not approve of this, and subsequently parted ways with the club. Hakimi was pursued by numerous suitors but chose to join Paris above all the options presented to him.

He becomes the second ‘officially’ confirmed signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s team this summer. They have already confirmed the arrival of Gini Wijnaldum as a free agent, and have fully agreed the signing of Gigio Donnarumma, formerly of AC Milan as a free agent too. The deal will be announced after the finals of the European Championship, where Donnarumma will participate.
