A Fitting Stage for India’s Lifters

India has won 18 world championship medals: three gold, ten silver and five bronze. Kunjarani Devi opened the account with silver in 1989. Karnam Malleswari then won back-to-back world titles in 1994 and 1995, and Mirabai Chanu took the 48kg crown in 2017. Chanu’s Tokyo Olympics silver turned a nation’s attention to the sport. Now India’s lifters will chase glory in front of a home crowd.
